HP Spectre x360 Disassembly and RAM, SSD Upgrade Options

In this guide I’ll disassemble an HP Spectre 13-w000 x360, I will remove the bottom cover, SSD, wireless card, USB board, heat sink, CMOS battery, speaker, cooling fan and motherboard.

1. Removing the bottom cover

Remove six visible screws from the bottom cover.

Remove four rubber mats on the bottom cover.
Remove four screws under the rubber mats.

There are two screws are covering by fragile stickers. If you damaged it, you will void the warranty.

With the bottom cover removed, you can get access to the battery, SSD, speakers, wireless card, heat sink, cooling fan, and motherboard.

2. Removing the battery

Disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard.

Uncover the insulation paper.
Remove all screws securing the battery.

HP Spectre x360 comes with a 11.55V, 57.9Wh Li-ion battery, HP P/N: 859026-421, HSTNN-LB7L.

2. Removing the touchpad

Under the battery, you can access the touchpad, CMOS battery, and two speaker modules.

Remove five screws securing the touchpad.
Lift up and remove it.
The touch chip comes from Synoptic.

3. Removing the cooling fan

Disconnect the cooling fan cable and remove the screw.

4. Removing the speaker module

Remove the screw securing the speaker module.
Disconnect the speaker cable from the motherboard.

5. Removing the CMOS battery

The CMOS battery is fixed on the chassis by glues.
Pry up it with a blade and disconnect the cable from the motherboard.

The CMOS battery comes from KTS, and Model is CR2016W.

6. Removing the PCB board

Remove one screw and disconnect the cable. You can remove the small PCB board.

7. Removing the USB board

Remove one screw and disconnect the cable.

There are a USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the USB board.

8. Removing the SSD

Remove one screw and take the SSD out of its slot.

The HP Spectre x360 comes with a Samsung MZ-VLV2560 M.2 NVMe PM951 256GB SSD, HP P/N: 833842-002.

9. Removing the wireless card

Remove one screw securing the wireless card.

Unplug two antenna cables. You can remove the wireless card.

10. Removing the motherboard

Disconnect the LCD cable from the motherboard.

Remove the audio module.

Disconnect the small fan cable.

Disconnect the keyboard cable from the motherboard.

The Samsung RAM chips are soldering on the motherboard.
The laptop no spare RAM slot, so you cannot upgrade the RAM.
