Alienware 17 R4 Disassembly and RAM, SSD and HDD Upgrade Options

In this guide I will disassemble an Alienware 17 R4. I will remove the bottom cover in order to upgrade the SSD, HDD and RAM memory.

There are two different types of screws and I circled them with different colors.
Remove six screws (red) that securing the bottom cover to the laptop.
Loosen one screw (yellow). Insert a pick to pry up the bottom cover.

Under the bottom cover, you can get access three M.2 SSD slots, two RAM slots and a hard drive module.
From the picture you can see, Alienware 17 R4 comes with two M.2 2280 SSD slots (support SATA and PCIe SSD) and a M.2 2242 slot.

The Alienware 17 R4 comes with two 8GB DDR4 2667MHz RAMs. According to Dell website information, it is support up to 32GB RAM, so you can replace it with 16GB DDR4 2667MHz RAM respectively.

Here’s hard drive module, it is securing to the laptop by four screws.

Here’s Toshiba 256GB PCIe SSD.
