Shut down the laptop. Unlock and remove the battery.
Loosen five screws that securing the service cover.
Lenovo Thinkpad P70 comes with a 8-cells 96Wh Li-ion battery. Lenovo part number: 00HW030
Pry up the cover with a small screwdriver and remove the cover.
Under the service cover, you can access the hard drive, wireless card, two RAM modules, two spare M.2 SSD slots, and a spare WWAN M.2 slot.
Red: palm rest screws
Blue: keyboard screws
Green: optical drive screw
Wireless card module and spare WWAN slot, the laptop also comes with two WWAN antenna cables, so you can add the WWAN easy.
Two 2280 M.2 SSD slots and two RAM slots
Lift the black tape and sliding it to the left to disconnect the hard drive from the motherboard.
Remove the screw securing the optical drive. Pull it to the left and remove it.
Turn the laptop over. Lift up the keyboard with your fingers.
Disconnect the keyboard and backlit cable from the motherboard. You can remove the keyboard.
Here’s Lenovo Thinkpad P70 keyboard.

Blue: Smart Card cable slot
Red: backlit cable slot
Green: Keyboard cable slot
Remove the DDR4 2133 8G RAM from its slot.
Blue: Color Calibrator cable
Red: Mouse touchpad cable
Disconnect the color calibrator cable and the touchpad cable from the motherboard.
Yellow: Power button cable
Purple: Fingerprint cable
Disconnect the power button cable and the fingerprint cable from the motherboard.
Remove two screws that securing the palm rest to the laptop.
Start separating the top cover from the bottom case using a guitar pick or any other similar tool.
Insert it under the top cover and move slowly along the side to unlock hidden latches.
Now lift up and remove the palm rest assembly.

When the palm rest was removed, you can see the internal design is very neat, and there are no messy cables.
Red: Video cable
Blue: Webcam + Microphone cable
Disconnect these two cables from the motherboard.
Remove the left and right LCD hinge cover.
Here’s Lenovo Thinkpad P70 microphone/speakers module.
Remove all screws securing the roll cage to the laptop.
Remove the smart card holder. This laptop without the smart card just comes with a smart card holder.
Lift up and remove the roll cage from the laptop.
Under the roll cage, you can access the heat sink, cooling fan and motherboard.
Lenovo Thinkpad P70 with dual cooling fan, the right is the CPU fan.
Loosen all screws securing the heat sink and disconnect two fan cables from the motherboard. You can remove the heatsink/fan assembly.
Remove two screws securing the video cable and take it out of its slot.
NVIDIA Quadro M600M graphics card
Remove all screws securing the motherboard.
Remove the screw securing the DC power jack cable.
