How to remove or replace cooling fan on HP 778793-001

1. Shut down your HP 778793-001. Slide the battery lock latch and then slide the battery release latch to remove the battery.
2. Remove one screw securing the optical drive. Pull it out of the laptop.
3. Turn the laptop face down, and remove the rubber feet and two screws under the rubber feet, and then lift up and remove the end caps.
4. Remove eleven screws from the bottom cover.
5. Remove eight screws around the battery bay, two screws in the optical drive bay and one screw near the display hinge.
6. Turn the HP 778793-001 right side up and separate the top cover with a thin card or guitar pick.
7. Sliding the guitar pick along the edges until the top cover fully released from the laptop.
8. Lift up the top cover. Be careful, there are four cables still connecting to the top cover.
9. Disconnect the power button cable, keyboard cable, touchPad cable, backlit cable from the motherboard.
10. Disconnect two antenna cables and remove the screw securing the wireless card. Take it away from its slot.
11. Disconnect the subwoofer cable from the motherboard, remove the three screws, and lift up and remove it from HP 778793-001.
12. Disconnect the power connector board cable, LCD cables, speaker cable, optical drive cable, hard drive cable and USB connector cable.
13. Remove the screw securing the power connector cover. Lift up and remove it.
14. Remove the six screws securing the motherboard. Now you can remove the motherboard from the HP 778793-001.
15. Disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard, and then remove the adhesive tape that secures the fan to the heatsink.
16. Remove three screws securing the fan.
