Appearance
The Strix Scar II looks similar to its predecessors. It boasts the ROG logo on the LCD back cover. This gaming laptop feels robust and solid.
There are many vents on the bottom of the laptop. Apart from the vents, the back cover also features five non-skip mats which can help deliver stronger airflow. These designs contribute to the laptop’s heat dissipation performance.
Ports
Compared to its predecessor, the Strix Scar II provides more ports. On the right of the laptop, it has a Type-C port, a USB 3.1, and an SD card slot.
The left side comes with the power jack, an RJ45 jack, a MiNi PD port, an HDMI port, three USB 3.1 ports, and a headphone and microphone combo jack.
Display
The Scar II GL704GW features a 17.3-inch FHD display. To satisfy the player’s requirements, the laptop adopts the most popular narrow bezel design. The bezel of the display on the three sides is 7mm. Gaming Optimized Keyboard
The revised keyboard features a large space bar which is easier to hit and four additional hotkeys. This desktop-inspired layout design provides the user with a good experience for daily typing or games.

The ASUS ROG Strix Scar II GL704GW is powered by the current mainstream Intel’s Core i7-8750H standard-voltage processor. Based on the Coffee Lake architecture, this twelve-thread chip uses the 14nm manufacturing process and owns six cores. Its main frequency is 2.2GHz, up to 4.1GHz. And the processor’s TDP is 45W. This high-performance CPU can meet most users’ demands.
On Cine Bench R15, the i7-8750H chip’s single-core score is 161cb and its multi-core score reaches 1176cb. In terms of the test results, this processor has outstanding performance.
GPU benchmark
Its improved GPU is one of the gaming laptop’s highlights. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card uses the revolutionary NVIDIA Turing architecture. Built on the 12nm process, it features 2304 shading units. With regard to its memory layout, the RTX 2070 has arrived with the same 8GB DDR6 as the RTX 2080, running along an aggregated 256-bit memory bus. Besides, its memory runs at 14Gbps.
According to the results on 3D Mark, the RTX 2070’s score is 3994.
SSD benchmark
The Scar II comes with a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD and a 1TB HDD. We use AS SSD Benchmark to test the PCIe NVMe SSD. The test results show that the SSD’s sequential read speed is 1146.70 MB/s and its sequential write speed is 860.17MB/s.
Heat Dissipation
Use DIDA64 to test the laptop’s memory, CPU and GPU. After thirty minutes, record the temperature with a thermal imager. The highest temperature of the keyboard measured 54.9 degrees, which concentrate on the top area of the keyboard. The hottest part of the back cover was 52.8 degrees. Thanks to ROG’s latest cooling system, the Scar II has an excellent heat performance
Internal Structure
It’s easy to dismantle the Scar II. Removing all the screws at the bottom of the laptop, and then the back cover can be taken out. The cooling system consists of two fans, five copper pipes and four vents.
From the picture, we can see the gaming laptop features a Samsung’s 16GB DDR4 2666MHz memory. The user can expand the capacity up to 32GB.
