Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2018 has outstanding internal workmanship. First, we need to remove the SIM card tray first. Otherwise, you can’t remove the back cover.

Then loosen all the screws on the back cover, because there is no snap to fix the back cover, so you can easily remove it.

With the bottom cover removed, you can get access to the battery, SSD, Wi-Fi card, heat sink, cooling fan, speaker, and motherboard.

The cooling system has two copper tubes and one fan from Nidec. There is also has a black sticker on the processor.

The heat sink with a ThinkPad FRU of 01NR203. There is a silver sticker, which is the memory module of the laptop.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2018 comes with a 512GB Samsung PCIe NVMe PM981 M.2 SSD. Samsung P/N: MZ-VLB5120, Lenovo P/N: 00UP490.

The laptop also has a WWAN M.2 2242 slot, which you can install a 4G LTE module, but I did not find the WWAN antenna.
If you don’t need the 4G module, maybe you can install an M.2 SSD.

Uncover the silver sticker, and you can find four SK Hynix chips, they are the memory chips soldered on the motherboard.
It does not reserve RAM slots, so you have no way to upgrade memory.

  1. this laptop is a piece of shit, 1st the battery fails but in the process destroys the motherboard, $700 later and 4 months later the ram fails, tossing this $2200 mistake in the garbage
